SWITCH OFF by CTVR
The wireless systems we use every day such as mobile phones, WiFi, GPS, radio, TV and satellites use different frequencies. We use the term spectrum when we are talking about the range of frequencies which cover all of these services and more. Spectrum is a valuable resource as these wireless services cannot function without it and because it is in much demand. As the world becomes ever-more connected the demand on spectrum grows further. On October 24th Analogue TV will be turned off in Ireland. In other words whole chunks of spectrum will be empty. This presents us with a fantastic opportunity. It is rare that so much readily usable spectrum becomes free, finding unused spectrum is like finding new oil reserves. The frequencies which are now free can be used for new services. We need to grab this opportunity and get out there and do things with this spectrum. The Switch Off is about more than just moving to Digital TV, it is about recycling the old TV spectrum for new and better uses.
